Well, it’s the beginning of a new year here in the great ERAK. Unfortunately, since the Alaska Lotto drawing has been delayed, we weren’t able to start 2010 with an extra $500,000 as we had planned. Which is OK. The money will surely still come in handy at the end of February. Anybody looking to sell a Kenai waterfront home? We’ll be in the market once the check clears, which will hopefully be before April 30.
Why April 30? That’s an important date for those of us looking to buy or sell a home in 2010. In addition to extending the incredible $8000.00 tax credit for first time homebuyers, the feds have gifted repeat buyers with a credit of up to $6500.00 for purchases made by April 30, 2010. The great thing about this credit is it’s refundable, meaning you can collect it even if you owe little or no federal tax. So if you’ve been thinking about buying, whether it’s your first house or you’re moving up, now’s the time to do it. Obviously, since this is a government program, you need to be sure and familiarize yourself with the guidelines to ensure you get the entire credit to which you’re entitled.
Shoot. It looks like we won’t be able to use our tax credit for Kenai waterfront after all, unless we decide to make it our permanent residence. And we love Eagle River too much for that. No problem, we’ll surely be able to spend those lotto winnings somehow.
